Venice Beach by Michael Hofmann : Poetry Magazine.

I love the descriptiveness of this poem.  Also, the prose piece in this months magazine gives special context to reading this.  The firsts time I read it, I drove through it without much thought.  The second time, after having read the  article by James Lasdun his prose brought me back to the poem, first online where I decided to look up some poetry by Hoffmann then, once I read the poem I realized I had read it recently, as it turns out in the March issue of the magazine.

Lasdun’s article reminded me how certain personalities in our lives can influence us so strongly.  I was reminded of a friend from childhood whom whenever any  of his friends spent time with him we would start talking in his particular cadence.  Some people are like this.
